There is nothing wrong with the concept of Government of the People by the People to provide a harmonious, political environment.
Unfortunately the mechanism we use to achieve democracy varies little from the feudal or tribal systems of old. It still delivers a single charismatic individual, with a few key advisors who have omnipotent control. Those who are part of a political machine and disagree with a leader, have a short political future. Becoming elected, still relies on managing people’s perceptions. Whether this is achieved by straight bribery (such as New Guinea) or media saturation that is used in the more advanced countries, the result is that those who pursue the power, buy it.
Perhaps a more democratic approach would be to allow people to vote on issues, rather than representatives. Then employ managers to run the country. The managers would be hired and fired based on K,P,I,s for the resolution of the issues, like most company executives. In this way all issues would be clear and we might achieve what the majority of us would prefer. Or perhaps we would all prefer to be told what to do by a charismatic figure and just complain a lot.
